Welcome to the beginning.
Where do we start?
I, Mackenzie Page and the whole board at Rocky Mountain Women Invest, are thrilled to have you here. We will be your guide and best friends as we venture on the rollercoaster that is real estate investing. With all the ups and downs we get to the root of what it looks like to reach your investing goals and your dream life.
Whether you are a brand new investor or hold a 50+ property portfolio– this blog is for you! We are women helping women, sharing tips and tricks, lifting one another up toward financial knowledge, success, and ultimately –freedom.
I’ve mulled for hours about how to start this blog. About how anyone begins anything. Whether that is a new hobby or buying your first investment property, or hell– going to the gym more consistently. What does it look like to start something? And what are the places that stop us or worse how do we inadvertently stop ourselves?
I can tell you from experience, being a novice…a newbie at anything– is decidedly difficult. I personally am a serial-starter, also knows as shiny-object syndrome. I LOVE to start new projects but as the difficulty rises suddenly everything looks a lot shinier. But I’ve learned that if I don’t also find consistency within the beginning stages, I won’t get to where I want to be.
Trying new things also gets harder the older we get. We have to swallow our pride. Take the wobbly steps forward knowing that if we keep going, we eventually will learn how to buy investment properties with one glance, throw that perfect bowl from the mound of pottery or finish that marathon. Being a beginner is vulnerable, but it is in that vulnerability where we learn the most about ourselves.
Moral of the story: we all have to start somewhere. And the only way to do that is to…
START.
The thing about being a beginner is also recognizing where we’ve come from. Remembering those wins and living in the confidence that we have the SKILLS and KNOW HOW to get us to where we want to go. We did it then, we can do it again.
Think back to the You from three, or even five years ago. Think of the goals you had then– Have you accomplished even one of them?
Would that past You be proud of where you are now?
Hell yah she would!!
So for this first blog, in the honor of starting things, I want us to look back. To see that woman who blindly trudged into the woods without a map but fearless and ready to make life her own.
I want you to open up your phone and like Jen Gottlieb says —write your BadAss list.
A BadAss list is a list of all the moments where you excelled. Don’t be humble here, give it ALL. Give yourself those moments you really shined. The moments you felt like, “Yes– I did THAT.”
The point of the list is that you add to it over time. As you make badass moves you create a space for yourself to really BRAG. The juice of this exercise comes when you are feeling down, or unworthy or challenged, you go to your badass list and read it like you’re stalking your latest inspo on instagram.
Read each of the milestones like they are another woman you are fawning over. Read this list like you are a stranger meeting a new friend.
I am guilty, and I doubt I’m alone in forgetting all of the goals we’ve accomplished to get us where we are. It’s not a secret–the goal posts always move. We are always looking at what’s the next step and by doing so, we sometimes forget to look back.
And that’s the beauty of it. That’s growth.
We are always becoming a better, expanded version of ourselves. But growth can also be exhausting if we’re not giving ourselves the CREDIT of where we’ve come from. You Hustled, Pushed, and Dreamed, so give yourself that pat on the back and support to move forward.
I am by no means perfect. OR an “expert.” I am in the trenches of investing, and dream-life building like the rest of us. But what I CAN offer you is honesty. I can offer real-talk and the nitty gritty of what it means to live WITH fear, instead of letting it stop us in our tracks.
Because let’s be real—life is TOUGH. But what we can do as women is SHARE our stories.
Through those stories can help inspire, inform and engage others so that women one day, can take over the world.
You in?
Great.
I’ll see you in the next blog.
Love, M
